I'm Rochelle Hoi-Yiu Kwan

// YiuYiu 瑶瑶 for short

Cindy Trinh

I'm a cultural organizer, artist, & oral history educator homebased on Lenape land in NYC's Manhattan Chinatown.

I take on my childhood name YiuYiu 瑶瑶 as a guardian & DJ historian for Chinatown Records 華埠錄音, a community effort to celebrate the sonic tapestry of music, memory, & history that comes with inherited family record collections. Alongside my family & neighbors, I produce Chinatown block parties, sonic histories, listening sessions, & beyond to activate the Chinatown Records archive and bring the music back out to the people.

I think anyone can be a storyteller, historian, DJ, artist ~ and our home courts are our living rooms, dinner tables, & neighborhoods. I lead oral history projects and training with Think!Chinatown and so many more community classrooms, so we can all learn to look to our loved ones to pass down, learn, & celebrate our histories together.
